Full Immersion Course Summary:

For the first time, BLC is offering an intensive Koine Greek language course within a total immersive environment over the Passover and Easter holidays. For ten straight class days from sunrise to sunset, students will join Dr. Buth and his staff as they interact and experience the Greek Gospels.

This is the chance to open a new dimension in one’s Greek fluency from biblical exegesis to mundane communication. Participants will read and discuss the Gospels, develop Greek fluency, visit sites around the Sea of Galilee (Capernaum, Chorazin, Beitsaida, and others), and work together on Greek pedagogy. All meals will be shared while speaking Greek as well. There will also be forums in the evenings for special English lectures and discussions.

Some Ground Rules for this exclusive experience: A participant’s speaking is triggered and begun through listening and a daily living context. Participants will start where and when they are able. If they are just beginning to speak, they are requested to make a good faith attempt to adapt to a Koine pronunciation while in attendance (See Living Koine Greek, Part One). On the other hand, all participants can speak in any pronunciation of Greek they are familiar with. The important point will be to communicate in Greek and only in Greek. The teaching staff will be speaking in a Koine dialect. Part of the fun of developing fluency in a language is the negotiating of live communication in real life situations.

This course is designed for intermediate Greek students and for teachers who would like to develop speaking skills and communicative pedagogy. If you are interested in developing communicative language skills for use in your classroom, or if you just want to make huge advances in your own study of Greek—this efficient, highly concentrated class offers the chance of a lifetime.

Visa: Inquire with the Israeli Embassy in your country whether you need to apply for a visa in advance. Americans and most Europeans receive a 3-month visa upon arrival.

Accommodations: This course will be hosted by Bet Bracha, a charming guesthouse located in the village of Migdal overlooking the Sea of Galilee. Price is based on two persons per suite and students will be housed with a roommate of the same gender excepting married couples. Three meals a day will be served in the dining room.

A Note on Safety: Students from previous summers have unanimously agreed that the whole program is perfectly safe and secure. Several came with some trepidation that had been generated by the world news services. Those fears melted away after seeing the reality of the situation.  Many students at the Biblical Language Center end up feeling safer and more secure here than in their home environments.

Health Insurance: International insurance is required. It is possible to purchase insurance in Israel for approximately $2.00 US / day during your stay.
